Every summer I am taunted by the bumble bees in my garden. They spend hours every day working the flower beds, but have zero interest in pollinating my tomatoes. Bumbles just prefer the sweet nectar of the perennial flowers over the dry pollen of tomatoes. Even though they snub the toms, watching the bees bounce from flower to flower is one of my favorite parts of summer. I’ll just have to use a mechanical pollinator on the tomatoes.
